The cats whiskers of Portobello

As a breather from the high end of fashion week I have enjoyed a wander through the (sometimes) gorgeous rails at Portobello. The stall I fell in love with was the The Cats Meow (I loved it for more than just its amazing name!!) True vintage finds, high quality and honest prices a collection of beautiful pieces from Rebecca Denholm, an aficionado of vintage fashion, who dresses as fabulous as her stall looks, even in the depths of February! These clothes seem appropriate and relevant to the way we dress now.

You can make an appointment at The Cat's Meow for an exclusive viewing of their current collection at the Glasgow Design Studios, by emailing them here

Technology ago-go at Burberry

Burberry's A/W show was streamed live at 4pm today, I watched with baited breathe as the screen loaded... crashed... taunted me for a glitchy moment...then crashed before I swapped browser, turned up the volume, sat back and enjoyed the show (sadly not in 3D though!)

The collection was stunning. Spine tinglingly stunning. Kicking off with a range of oh-so desirable leather shearling jackets and coats, the likes of which made the gorgeous Acne Aviator jacket pale in comparison. Ruched and tattered dresses in an array of chiffon and the ever-more-present velvet were paired with oversized furs and rounded shoulder military detail coats. The compulsory trench made less of an appearance than in recent shows, the collection looking newer for it. With a rich earthy colour palette of khaki, black, navy and camel, broken with the dirty berry (not burgundy! Berry- a tone which washed away all visions of 90's Laura Ashley) with pops of Ochre, Yves Klein Blue and Cerise, combinations of which put back with white and mink looked truly modern and wearable.

It seems entirely appropriate to be commenting about this collection, that was streamed to the masses in fabulous 3D technology, through the egalitarian web!!

A desirable, commercial collection for the masses, seen by the masses.

Accidental Colour Palette

As my washing slowly takes over our bedroom I couldn't help musing how gorgeous my pastels and pop colours look together! All we need is the rain to stop and the sun to come out, until then I think my washing will have to decorate the outside of our wardrobe!

A Single Man

I've been eagerly awaiting Tom Ford's first foray into directing for some time, it did not disappoint! Visually stimulating and mentally engaging, Ford's vision of Christopher Isherwood's 1964 novel of the same name, was handled with the style and elegance you would expect from a creative director such as Ford.

The sumptuous technicolor is sure to inspire many collections in the upcoming seasons, as will Nicholas Hoult's fabulous fluffy jumper!! And if Julianne Moore's beehive and penchant for early morning cocktails doesn't leave you yearning for a little more glamour in your life you are probably wearing Birkenstocks!

New York, New York

After a full on week of shows from the glorious New York, for me there was one key breathe of fresh air. The gorgeous Marc Jacobs! Embracing a new longer line silhouette Jacobs breaks the rinse/repeat mould of the super sexy body-con looks we've seen across the catwalks for so many seasons now. Marc Jacobs rebrands sexy with a subtle sobriety. Who would of thought ankle socks and midi length skirts would suddenly look so alluring?!
